A Storekeeper, Chibueze Ogbonna, who allegedly stole cable wires worth N459, 000 was on Friday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ogbonna, 41, a resident of Ilasamaja, a Lagos suburb, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Edet Okoi, told the court that the offenses were committed between June 15 and June 21 at 4: 00 p.m. at Plot 1, Oshodi /Apapa Expressway, Ilasamaja, Lagos.
Okoi said the accused and two others still at large, conspired to steal the cables, property of Akanbi Ganiyu, the complainant.
Okoi said the accused was seen by the complainant while loading the stolen items in a parked vehicle.
He said: “The complainant, who had earlier gone to the mosque for prayers, saw the accused from a distance loading the cables in a vehicle.
“When questioned about the cables, the accused couldn’t give a satisfactory account, hence the report.”
The offenses contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised) and punishable under same.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum and two years tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
The Magistrate adjourned the case till January 22,2018 for mention. NAN
