A human right group in Anambra State under the aegis of ‘Corruption Watch and Character Building’ has petitioned the Anambra State Commissioner of Police to investigate the activities of youth associations operating in all the 177 communities in various guises in the state.
Coordinator of the group, Comrade Chunks Ogbuka, in a petition addressed to the police Chief, a copy of which was made available to the media, said investigating the youths has become necessary following incident he alleged happened at Uruagu Oba community in Idemili South Local Government Area where he alleged that one Ndubisi Nwokolo’s residence was invaded by some youths who identified themselves as members of a task force.
He alleged that Mr Nwokolo resigned in 2015 from his membership of a vigilance group in the area and was attacked by a group over a land deal he (Nwokolo) refused to give his consent to and his decision to quit as a vigilante member in that community.
Comrade Ogbuka claimed that the group arrived the home of their victim, beat him to a pulp with some objects and allegedly gained entry into his house which they ransacked and removed some valuables including money even when he was still unconscious.
He prayed that the police Chief would investigate the alleged beating and invasion, saying the action calls for investigation of the background of all youth associations. The Authority
